Umit Machinery and AAC combine forces

Producing machinery for mattress industry, Umit Machinery signed a new deal with Atlanta Attachment Company for export markets.

Baris Umit, the son of founding father and general manager of the company explained about his activities in foreign countries.

On the company and its products

Founded by Ergin Umit, who visited a fair in Germany and decided to build machinery in 1985, the company operates in its factory at Silivri, Istanbul. The company started exporting in 1993 with its first delivery to Kosovo.  First machinery made was quilting machinery. Later on, other machinery were added into manufacturing line, including, edging quilt, bed closing, bonnell spring, setting, bonnell spring helical, bed packaging and lately bagged spring machinery.

In line with growing demands our company has expanded its market coverage towards Europe, America and Canada. Presently we are working on the development of more practical machinery for bagged springs. They are developed in-house and protected by patents.

80 percent of our production is exported to 300 companies in 78 countries, in Africa, Europe, Russia, Gulf region, and South Africa.

Spring production machinery are the most demanded line of our products. Bonel and bagged spring machinery production has been done by 2000. That year, we got CE standard certificate for our first export to England.

On ISPA 2014 and relations with AAC

We are the only company in ISPA 2014 from Turkey. It was calm and efficient. Visitors were highly interested in our machinery and we signed three contracts. Contributions of ACC were also valuable for us in obtaining this business. We combined our forces in the markets abroad.

General comments on the bed industry in Turkey and abroad

Production volume for mattresses is still low in Turkey. About five million beds are produced in a country of 75 million. 30 percent of it, namely 3.5 million beds is sold in domestic market. The problem is not to produce, is to collect cash. The highest production per capita is made in Europe and in the USA.

As in the past 23 years, we are trying to realize our vision. It is a marathon race. We keep our position by developing new products and by working harder.
