History of sewing thread

The historical process of the thread

The history of the thread is the same as the history of humanity, in fact, the fibers obtained from plant stems and leaves were used in the first ages, then it was obtained from animal hair and sheep wool, and in the Far East, the threads obtained from the silkworm caused the clothing to turn into art.

In the first century, cotton began to spread from the Middle East and Egypt to the world, and while animal wool was mainly used until the 13th century, cotton began to become widespread and came to the fore. In the early 1800s, mercerization process was started to be applied to cotton yarn and better quality bright and durable yarns started to be produced. Synthetic fiber was discovered at the beginning of the 1900s, and then nylon and right after polyester were discovered in the 1940s, and the production amount and costs of the yarn became much more economical. Since 1970, synthetic yarns have reduced the dominance of natural fibers and today, a new one is added to the synthetic fiber types almost every year. (Aramid – Carbon etc.)

Technological development of Spinning

As in all sectors, yarn manufacturing procedures have benefited from all the developments in technology and played a role in the development of many products that make life easier. Fine threads that are flame and heat resistant, waterproof, unaffected by sunlight, high friction resistance, antistatic, conductive, high strength have contributed to applications that make our lives easier. There are also yarns made by combining several different fiber types, which opens up unlimited application areas in the fabric production and sewing thread sectors.

Developments improving thread strength and tenacity

The chemical structures of especially synthetic yarns have developed a lot in recent years. By this means, the strength, flexibility and endurance values have become controllable and can be arranged in line with needs. As the yarns produced in normal standards have become more durable and stable with bonded and similar processes, they have become accessible to everyone. With waxing, they reach a structure that is more solid and is protected from the effects of the external environment. The wires that can be used together with the yarn during twisting also provide both strength and durability. As a result, technological developments in the world directly influence yarn production and ensure its development.
