With a team of over 100 personnel and exporting springs, bed base and bonnell springs to Europe and Middle East, Kar-As has a recordable position in the sector.

Erdogan Aslan, General Manager of Kar-As said all of the products they produced for the mattress industry were similar the ones produced in Europe. Aslan pointed out that they offered solutions to all sleep cultures with over 100 kinds of products. He also evaluated the year 2013 in the interview:

Could you furnish us with general information about your company?

Kar-as started doing business in Kayseri, Turkey in 1995. Today, with more than 100 employees, we are exporting to many European and Middle-Eastern countries. Even though we are celebrating our 18th anniversary, we still feel young as if we were established a few days ago. Hence, we are doing our best to look for new markets, new customers, and new ways to grow our business and move forward.

Could you brief us about your production?

In the bedding industry, almost all of our products are related to the European culture. These can be summarized as pocket spring units, boxspring sets and adjustable electric beds. These are the most common products that we export to Europe. When it comes to the domestic market, I can say that bonnell springs, bed bases and mattresses are selling in high demand. To be the leading company in the bedding industry, you have to be producing any type of products for any country. This is because; every country has its own sleeping culture. If you solve and understand the sleeping culture of every country, you will be successful in the industry. I strongly believe that we have spent a lot of time to figure this out. And, now, we have more than 100 kinds of products, providing solutions to all sleeping cultures around the world.

You produce bonnel and pocket spring for the mattress industry. Which spring should be use in which mattress according to you?

Both of them can be used as long as you give the logical solutions to the people’s habits. In some cultures, people want to sleep on a hard mattress. On the other hand, others may be interested in sleeping on a soft mattress. Culture plays an important role in this matter. In general, Europeans prefer soft to hard. In contrast, some Eastern countries prefer mattresses having harder structures.

Can you inform us about your foreign trade; exports and imports?

For years, we are basically exporting to the European countries, such as England, Holland, Germany, Belgium and Denmark. In the recent years, with the increase in the demand of the Turkish products, we have opened distributorship and agents in the Northern Africa. Most of the raw materials of our products are already being produced in Turkey. This is why, we do not prefer importing. Turkish raw materials have a good quality comparing to many European and Asian countries. Sometimes, there may be patented products in the international market, which we use to produce our own products. In that case, it becomes an obligatory to import these products since they are not produced in Turkey.

What do you have in your product range?

How was 2013 for your company? Could you brief us your review about 2013?

It has been a powerful and a passionate year. The reason behind that is that the political conflicts near the border of Turkey, such as Syria. In the recent years, the tension between Turkey and Syria is getting tightened. These conflicts have direct and indirect effects in the Turkish Economy. Before the conflicts, the economy was getting better. Unfortunately, in 2013, we could not find the targets that we determined earlier in the region of Turkey. However, European countries have had good effects in  the Turkish Economy. Because of the aims of the Turkish Government to enter into the European Union, the Turkish Economy is attracting the European Investors. This can be regarded as an advantage for the Turkish Economy. We should take important steps recognizing this matter.
