Atlas Matress: We want to present different alternatives to our customers at the fair

Atlas Matress Company Owner Ali Can Karaca made statements regarding the IBIA EXPO 2022 Fair.

Karaca, speaking to Sleeptech magazine editor Furkan Akar, stated that he believed that it will be more beneficial for companies that the fair will be held abroad. Karaca, speaking about the IBIA Association and the organization process, made constructive criticisms about the organization.

What was the most important factor that enabled you to participate in the IBIA EXPO 2022 Fair?

I had my first experience with sectoral fairs at Sleepwell fair. I participated in the Sleepwell fair as a participant while I was working at Boyteks. I observed that the number of participants in this fair was less than many other fairs. But, although the number of participants was low, the visitor profile was exactly at the desired level. That’s to say, a customer coming to a textile fair to buy curtains can come to your stand just because he is curious and take your time unnecessarily. However, in such a sectoral fair, you can contact the right people. Since I have had this experience, I believe that this fair, established as a sectoral, will be successful. Of course, the measure of success is different for everyone. I hope this organization will not be as short-lived as Sleepwell. If it starts well, I think it will be very successful over the years.

What are your predictions and hopes for the fair?

As in every new formation and establishment, there will be problems, delays or situations that fall short of expectations in the first fair. It is necessary for the participants to be thoughtful as it is the first fair. I am sure that organization officials will do their best.

I do not think that it will be very productive and successful due to that it is the first fair. Fair and association officials are doing their best for promotional activities. We are following them happily. But, the stagnation in the bed and furniture sector, the imbalance in the markets and that it is a fair to be held for the first time is making me think that the participation will not be at the desired levels.

Of course, I also have a different positive opinion here. Manufacturers and customers are looking for an alternative in many different markets outside of Asia. IBIA EXPO can be a key in this quest. This may have a positive effect on the number of participants.

How did you prepare for the fair as a company? Will you have surprises for your customers??

For many years, I have been as a participant or visitor in fairs on different subjects in many different countries. However, as Atlas Tekstil, we are participating in a fair for the first time. It may be a little early for us. For this reason, we feel both excited and inexperienced. It will be a brand new experience for us. Our goal is to introduce customers to some qualities that they can use in mattress production and that they are not accustomed to. We want to come up with different alternatives.

Finally, do you have anything you want to say about the fair?

I have to criticize some decisions in the fair organization. The most important issue that I want to focus on is the company placement decisions in the fair organization. I do not find it right to highlight companies that already have a brand value, position and awareness in the sector such as BOYTEKS, BEKAERT etc. at the fair. IBIA President Mr. Osman also explained the reason for these decisions, and from the perspective of them, maybe it is the right decision. But I am of the opinion that such sectoral associations should approach their members equally in every subject and aspect. The participants will already want to visit the companies having high brand value and they have to visit them. A fair organized to develop the mattress sector and the companies in this sector in Turkey already places advanced companies at the forefront. I think the important thing is to offer conveniences to new companies or firms that want to improve in this regard. I think a fair organized by an association should have behaved in this direction.

Mr. Osman and Mr. Nebi, who are in the management, are people I have known for a long time, respected and have a broad command of the issues. They are also experienced in such organizations and structures. Perhaps, it is the right decision to hold the fair in Istanbul. In my opinion, this fair should have been held abroad. Maybe they can hold the fair abroad in the next years. Think about it, it is a sectoral fair and the most important condition for the participants is to be a company from the Republic of Turkey. I hope our association will give the green light to such organizations in the next years.
