Orhun Aydın Duran, who is in charge of Sefa Kimya, serving the mattress industry by producing glue, gave an interview to Sleeptech.

Sefa Kimya Export Specialist Duran, who gave an interview to our magazine, talked about the types of glue they produce, their R&D and innovation studies, and the sustainability policy of the firm. Duran, talking about the EVA-based adhesives they produce for bag spring mattresses, gave the following statements in his interview on the topic; “We also add efficiency to the mattress industry with synthetic, fireproof package springs and foam adhesives. 1. Can you mention the characteristics of the glue types you produced for the mattress sector?

Modern adhesives play a leading role especially in the production of mattresses, apart from the assembly of the base and bed surrounds. High bond strength is extremely important during production and later during usage, such as the rapid pressing and roll packaging process.

In the production of mattresses, different types of materials and an ever-increasing number of layers are laminated with each other. Adhesives used in the application must be extremely flexible and adhere to a wide variety of materials.

Sefox solvent-based, hot-melt and water-based adhesives offer the best performance in the mattress industry in ensuring the adhesion of layers to each other. The feature making Sefox the optimum option in this area is that it provides stronger adhesion by using less glue on the surface.

Solvent-based adhesives are preferred because of their properties such as adjustable drying times, bonding strength, resistance to humid environments and ease of application.

That hot-melt adhesives do not require drying time after application, that they provide continuous, automatic and high-speed operation, that they do not cause problems such as flowing and leaking during storage and transportation due to the solid structure of the products, that they have good adhesion strength and flexibility, and they adhere to different materials are the most important features.

Water-based adhesives use water as a carrier, making the adhesive less irritating to human skin. This is also more suitable for roll packaging. The evaporation rate of water is slower than solvent, resulting in longer drying time for the adhesive. We can say that it is a more natural and environmentally friendly adhesive.

 

2. What are the differences of the glue you use for the manufacture of package spring mattresses from others as the technical features?

4. Can you mention your studies or sensitivities on recycling, sustainability and nature protection?

First of all, Sefa Kimya uses non-toxic solvents instead of toluene and other carcinogenic solvents, which are frequently preferred in the sector and are harmful to human health.

The plastic, tin and paper wastes that are used in our production are first sent to our collection units and then to our separation units. Later, they are directed to waste collection or recycling centers and kept away from nature.
